COMMON CONSUMER CONNECTIVITY ISSUES #2 - READ THE DIRECTIONS OR MANUAL! Most difficulties faced by consumers with internet TV are a result of not reading the manual. These manuals are generally very well written and easy to follow, however most complaints found on Amazon.com are clear results of the manual being left in the box.
COMMON CONSUMER CONNECTIVITY ISSUES #3 ENSURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT COMPONENTS!
Many boxes will come with the components you need. Here is a list of components you will need for connected TV just in case you purchased the most affordable box and some components were left out to save money. Components Needed for Connected TV installation: Streaming media box or dongle, power cord, HDMI cord (x2 if you have cable), a 7ft to 50ft Ethernet or Lan cable, USB cable (for connection to Hard drives) (Any hard drive connection will require the savvy of knowing how USB connections work), A power strip (preferably with at least 5 plugs and surge protection), Batteries for the remotes, Tape or Velcro kit, to hold an external remote sensor in place. PATIENCE and the Determination to install it right the first time.
COMMON CONSUMER CONNECTIVITY ISSUES #4 ELECTRONICS REQUIRE PROPER VENTILATION These new streaming media boxes are a response to consumer demand. They are a combination of several technologies, all of which are not well engineered for consumer use. These companies are not at the stage to put high quality engineering into these boxes, so treat them gently. Ensure there is proper ventilation, that they are kept in a cool place, that they are not dropped or moved often. Dust them before you can see a layer of dust. Dust is the chief killer of electronics. Turned them off daily, they may not have an auto-off feature and they are not at robust as your TVs or DVRs. They are a new technology, they are not durable yet.
